You’re Alone No Matter What

It doesn’t matter how many new haircuts you get
It doesn’t matter how many new clothes you buy
It doesn’t matter how much perfume you wear
It doesn’t matter how many new pairs of heels you try

It doesn’t matter what job you have
It doesn’t matter how popular you seem
It doesn’t matter how many friends you’ve got
It doesn’t matter what compliments you receive

cos when it comes to him,
there’ll always be that one other girl

whose skirt is a little bit shorter
and legs are a little bit skinnier
whose lips are a little more kissable
and eyes are a little bit prettier

who’ll mean more to him than you thought she would ...
who’ll mean more to him than you ever could ...

How do you think it feels?

knowing yours isn't the gift on his bedside table
knowing yours isn't the song playing in his car
knowing you're not the face on his wallpaper anymore
knowing he no longer has pictures of you on his phone

knowing yours isn't the email he was waiting for all day
knowing yours isn't the number memorised in his head
knowing yours aren't the calls he'll jump to answer
knowing yours isn't the birthday circled on his calendar

knowing you're not the girl holding his hand
knowing you're not the girl thats making him smile
knowing you're not the first thought in his head when he wakes up
and the last before he goes to sleep at night

knowing you're not the girl whose name makes him nervous
knowing you're not the girl who lights up his eyes
knowing you're not the girl giving him butterflies
knowing you're not the girl he dreams of all night

knowing you're not the girl he ll spend every moment with
knowing you're no longer the girl he'll instantly turn to for help
knowing you're not the girl he'll share his every day with
knowing now there's someone else in his head

knowing it's over, for good this time
knowing you're his past and your future isn't him
knowing that time has extinguished your flame
knowing the next time your phone rings, days weeks months from now,
that phone call, that text ..that still wont be from him...

The Last Waltz

I take your hand as you lead me to the dance floor
I'm in your arms, I'm yours tonight
It may be wrong, but i don't know why
This feeling just seems so right

I look into your eyes, I can see your soul
I see my whole world in there
All I've ever lived for, all that's ever mattered
Tonight it's right here...

A silent tear touches my cheek
But you catch it with your hands so warm
My strength is drained, I feel so weak
But you hold me as we dance along

Time seems still, life is bliss
Alas fate has different plans
And all too soon this dream
This life has got to end

As the music dies and you let go
I feel like I'm falling apart
My heart goes numb, my tears won't stop
But time just wouldn't wait

Forever and ever, I'll always remember
This love, this feeling so true
I'll live this night all my life
This Last Waltz with You......

The Fallen Hero

She felt the wedding band on her finger
She stared at the hands of the grandfather clock
Alongside hung the battered old calendar
Marking the days as the war was fought

Beside her feet on the tattered rug
Lay the remains of that morning’s paper
Bearing that bittersweet piece of news
That all the fighting was finally over

Their daughter lay asleep in the room next door
She had only been three when her daddy left
And two years later, he was returning at last
Home for her birthday, his promise kept

A sharp knock suddenly broke her thoughts
Hands shaking she reached for the door
A cold gust hit her in the face
As she saw that dreaded reality come forth

They brought his casket in from the snow
Offering hugs and words to ease her sorrow
But they gave up and left soon enough
As she quietly wept for her fallen hero

A father, a husband gone forever
A family shattered, torn apart
A brother, a son turned to stone
Lay in that room with a bullet through his heart

No power, no money, no words of promise
Could return to life this soldier lost
No war was ever worth the price
No victory could justify the lives it cost

Here's Why ...

“Maybe it’s best if you let go,
Times change and life goes on,
Why? “, she asked, “Why the hope?
Why are you still holding on?”

My eyes are wet, but I smile anyway,
And as I turn to her, this is what I say:

Because he’s the last person I think about
Every night before I fall asleep
Because every time his eyes meet mine
He sweeps me off my feet

Because his is the first face I want to see
Every morning as I open my eyes
Because I know I can’t forget his smile
                Even after a million tries

Because every time I am with him
Everything else just fades to gray
And the way he says my name
                Still takes my breath away

Because somehow I feel like he’s here
                Whenever they play our song
Because every time we talk on the phone
Thoughts of him haunt me all night long

Because every time I hear his voice
It brings a smile to my face
Because every time I feel close to him
It takes me to my happy place

Because every time he cracks a joke
He makes me laugh like no one else can
Because all the time we spent together
I was happier than I’ve ever been

Because sometimes when I want to break down and cry
I still need to put up a false pretence
And somewhere through this hollow emptiness
I can somehow sense his presence

Because every time I feel alone and weak
I realize why I’ve held on for so long
And I look up at the sky, the stars, the moon
And I tell myself, come what may, I’ll always have the strength to hold on

Because I’ve felt a love like never before
And it made my world just seem so right
Because nobody ever says it easy
But at the end, it’s always worth the fight

Because without him standing by my side
                My life is empty, incomplete
Because when I told him “I won’t let go”
It was a promise I meant to keep

Because somehow, somewhere deep inside my heart
                I still believe in fate
Because someday we’ll be together forever
And I know he’s worth the wait …
